Henoch Schonlein Purpura

Henoch Schonlein Purpura (HSP) is a type of vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels) which mainly affects blood vessels of small size. The affected child presents with a rash on the legs, which may also be present on the buttocks and the outer ear. In the early stages of the disease the child may have mild to severe abdominal pain.

HSP is usually a benign condition that resolves on its own, but in a certain percentage of patients it can affect the kidneys, causing long term impact. The child may also have joint pain, joint swelling, and swelling over the perineal area.
